I tried both the chicken and the lamb, but personally, I would highly recommend the lamb. The portion sizes are generous, and the flavors are rich and satisfying. It’s the kind of meal that leaves you completely satisfied with no regrets.

This place is highly recommended for an excellent reason! Very delicious, fresh food! The chips are the best chips I’ve had in Aus! They serve coeliac accredited gluten free options, so you can completely relax and enjoy your pita! The staff were very friendly, despite being really busy. I agree with the other reviews - highly recommend!

Beef casserole in tomato source and sliced premium lamb shoulder are tender and mouth watering. Both meat dishes offered solid portion. Flat bread is yummy too. We both are enjoyed this meal.

An institution in Melbourne and never fails to deliver! I had the mixed gyros coupled together with the fries and it was simply amazing. The meats hit the spot just right and the fries were excellently seasoned with a nice crunch!
A must to come back and enjoy this!

Stalactites is one of Melbourne’s must-try Greek restaurants, right in the heart of the city on Swanston Street. We gathered as a group for late dinner— the souvlaki and chips were the highlights! The meat was tender and full of flavour, and the chips were perfectly crispy and seasoned just right.
The staff were friendly and attentive, even though the place was quite busy. The service felt genuine and welcoming. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable, with that classic Greek taverna feel.
What I love most is that it’s open late, perfect for a quick dinner after a night out or when you’re craving something satisfying in the city. It’s also family-friendly and ideal for groups or solo diners.
Highly recommend Stalactites for anyone looking for authentic Greek food in Melbourne CBD — great food, great people, and great vibes.

Umm... I usually don't write reviews for restaurants abroad (I'm from the US) but I think Stalactites is the best Greek food I've ever had (no, I have not been to Greece).
For one, the place was popping at 10 pm on a Tuesday night. Good sign. I've been finding it harder in general to find restaurants open later in AUS, so not only it being open but it being pretty packed was pleasantly surprising. Secondly, the place is stunning! Looking straight ahead, it's a very charming restaurant, but look up, and you see the stalactites!! Then you've got the big windows as well for pensive staring off into the distance... All that to say, the ambiance was on point.
But, of course, the most important part is the food, because I don't pay for vibes. I ordered a lemon lamb special and their baklava dessert. WHAT. EVERYTHING. SO GOOD!!
For one: the lamb? Cooked to absolute perfection. Potatoes? Ridiculous (in a good way obvi). Lemon sauce? On point. Bread? Solid, nothing special, but, hey, it's free bread. Portion?! I ordered the smaller size for $30AUD and it was, um, still very substantial, and that's coming from someone who can eat a lot. No skimping on the lamb at all!
Now, the baklava. WHATTTTTT. Best baklava!! I will say that it's not super crispy. But, hear me out, it's got something else going on. It's its own baklava. The level of sweetness is very sweet but, at the same time, not too sweet. Paired with the ice cream? Period. The cigar shape, the cinnamon-flavored filling, the freshness.... y'all. Just trust me. It may not be your classic Middle Eastern-style baklava, but this is kinda of outclassing the classic for me.
Finally, the price point. It's super solid! I'm here writing this review and I'm VERY full and I spent, like, just over $25 USD. You can't make this stuff up. Would highly, highly recommend.

We recently tried the gluten-free and vegetarian souvlaki with chips from Stalactites as takeaway, and it was absolutely delicious. We’ve dined in here before, and the food has always been great.
This time we ordered takeaway, and the quality was just as good. It’s a very busy place, so if you’re dining in with kids it can feel a bit tight and crowded. That said, the location is excellent and the opening hours are very convenient.
Overall, fantastic food and a reliable spot for a tasty meal in Melbourne!

Our walking tour guide recommended this restaurant, and after checking it on Google Maps, I saw it was very popular with lots of great reviews. The food tasted fresh and delicious. I loved every dish we ordered. The fried calamari was the highlight. Everyone here was very friendly, which made the experience even better.

The restaurant is very lively. We went on Australian day and it is packed! We are a group of 14ppl and the food was very good. Despite my husband order was delayed over 30mins as it was a lamb ribs and the staff was very apologetic explaining they only have one gill and many orders in line. They offered a free drink on the house which was very good.

I had a fantastic late-night dining experience at Stalactites. Even during the late hours, the place was bustling and had a great, high-energy atmosphere. Despite being heavily crowded, the wait time was very reasonable, and the service was efficient.
The highlight was definitely the Chicken Giros Platter. The meat was perfectly spit-roasted—tender, flavorful, and seasoned beautifully with Greek herbs. It came with a generous side of crispy chips, a fresh Greek salad, and a block of feta that pulled everything together.
The interior is also really unique with its namesake "stalactite" ceiling, which adds a cool vibe to the meal. Whether you're looking for a proper sit-down Greek dinner or a high-quality late-night bite, this iconic Melbourne spot delivers. Highly recommended!
